Geography

Geography explores the relationships between people, places and environments, helping students understand landscapes, cultures and global issues.

The department is one of the oldest departments in the school. The department was opened when the school opened its doors to its first learners. It is a department that has stood the test of the times, rising above the storm most of the times amid so many challenges. The department has a great belief that, “they can do all things through Christ who gives them strength”

The department has passed through several HODs, but currently, it’s being headed by Miss Bridget Gudyanga, assisted by Ms Presilla Sibanda. Other teachers include Mrs Ntombenhle Moyo Zimbodza and Ms Rabina Kudzai Mandizha. The Head Mr S Ncube and the Deputy Head Mr M Mazibuko are also great geographers. All the teachers in the department are highly capacitated; all have pedagogy, with three of them possessing Masters Degrees, hence the quality results. Ms P Sibanda is an O Level Examiner. Ms B Gudyanga and Ms P Sibanda continue to produce very good results at A level. The two teachers have compiled teaching notes for A level which are being used by quite a number of schools around Zimbabwe, with a trade mark, “For I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength”. Some of the learners who came out with distinctions at “A” level 2025 results include: #indicate names

The department has come up with tokens to give overall best students per stream at the end of the year. Adesto Nawira was one of the receivers:

Since the implementation of the competence based curriculum, geography has mutated. The department has managed to embrace Geographical Information Systems to match with the International Standards. It is in Geography that the learners are made aware of other countries beyond their physical reach, Hence Geography is the WORLD. The department usually organises very successful Educational Tours so as to cement the learned information.

The department runs two environmental clubs, which are the International Climate Change and Conservation. They are passionate about keeping the environment clean and tree planting with interested stakeholders.

Geographers have great love for their learners. Disadvantaged learners are taken care of by the provision of uniforms and bus fare amongst others.

The successes in the department are due to team work. Every term the department goes for team building exercise, cementing their bond.
